A certain preacher
A certain preacher always prays long and with enthusiasm
for thieves and muggers that attack people on the street.
ある説教者がいました。彼は、道で人々を攻撃する泥簿やマガーのために
いつも熱狂的に祈ります
Let your mercy oh Lord cover their insolence
神さま！あなたの慈愛で彼らの傲慢さが消えますように！
He doesn't pray for the good, but only for the blatantly cruel
彼はいい人のためではなく明らかに残酷な人のために祈る
Why is this? his congregation asks
それはなぜですか・・と彼の信徒団は尋ねる
Because they have done me such generous favours
彼らはわしのためにとても気前のよい世話をしてくれたからです
Every time I turn back towards the things they want
彼らの望んでいる世界にわしが戻ろうとするたびに・・
I run into them, they beat me, and leave me nearly dead in the road
彼らに出会い、彼らはわしを殴って、道で死にそうになったままにほっておくのじゃ
And I understand again that what they want is not what I want
そしてわしは再び気づかされる・・彼らの望みはわしが望む世界ではない
They keep me on the spiritual path
彼らのお陰でわしはスピリチュアルの道から外れないようにと・・
That is why I honour and pray for them
だからわしは彼らを尊敬し、彼らのためにいのるのだ！
